Class Description: Using sustainably gathered Vashon cattail leaves we will begin with a checkerboard square, twine around it and create a classic elbow or heart basket about 4 1/2” tall, perfect for yourself or your Valentine. Other techniques will include plaiting, chasing, a braid finish and a handle made of northwest sweetgrass cordage or a four-strand braid.
Basketmaking tools to bring if you have them: scissors, a small ruler, water squirt bottle, blunt tapestry needle, clothes pins, one or two kitchen towels that will be dampened.
Artist Statement: Gathering, processing and weaving grant a sense of well-being as the creative journey unfolds.
